A guide to the Batman filming locations
Gotham City has been played by several real cities across the many Batman films. From Chicago to Liverpool, here is where the Dark Knight's world was really shot.
Chicago: Christopher Nolan's Gotham
Chicago became Gotham City for Batman Begins and The Dark Knight - LaSalle Street, the Chicago Board of Trade and Lower Wacker Drive (the Batmobile and Bat-pod chases) all feature. The city's bold architecture gave Nolan's Gotham its towering, real-world feel.
Pittsburgh takes over
For The Dark Knight Rises, Pittsburgh became Gotham, with Heinz Field standing in for the stadium that collapses and the Mellon Institute as Wayne Enterprises. The earlier Tim Burton and Joel Schumacher films were built largely on studio sets and backlots.
The Batman: England and Scotland
Matt Reeves's The Batman filmed a rain-soaked Gotham across England and Scotland - Liverpool's St George's Hall (the funeral and riot scenes), Glasgow's streets, and studios near London, with the vast hangars at Cardington housing the sets.
