The prison at the heart of the film is Kilmainham Gaol in Dublin, a former jail steeped in Irish history and a frequent film location for exactly this kind of scene.
Ardmore Studios and Dublin
Interiors were built at Ardmore Studios in County Wicklow, with Dublin city (around O’Connell Street) providing Belfast and other streetscapes.
Liverpool as London
The Liverpool neighbourhood of Toxteth, with its Georgian terraces, stood in for the hippie squat and 1970s London scenes, while some material used the real City of London around Guildhall.
