Edgar Wright sent a big-city supercop to the deceptively sleepy village of Sandford – and filmed it in his own hometown of Wells, Somerset. The joke goes deeper than casting: the crew deliberately hid Wells’ magnificent cathedral out of frame, so the “perfect village” would look utterly, suspiciously ordinary.
