Friday Night Lights shot across central Texas, using Pflugerville, Georgetown and Austin itself to build the most convincing small-town Texas ever put on television.
Where was Friday Night Lights filmed?
The series was made in and around Austin, Texas, with the fictional town of Dillon assembled from real central-Texas communities: Pflugerville, Georgetown, San Marcos, Round Rock and Austin, with some later material around Dallas.
Shooting in real Texas towns, often with a loose documentary style, is what gives the show its lived-in authenticity – the courthouses, high schools and main streets are the genuine article.

Pflugerville – early-season Dillon
Much of the first seasons used Pflugerville, just north-east of Austin, with Del Valle High School providing Dillon High and its football field.
Georgetown, Round Rock and San Marcos
The surrounding towns supplied Dillon’s civic backdrop: the Williamson County Courthouse in Georgetown, the Hays County Courthouse in San Marcos, and main-street scenes in Round Rock all appear.
Austin – the city itself
Downtown Austin (around West 9th Street) provided offices, businesses and city scenes throughout the run.
The Dallas area
Later seasons ranged north, using locations around Dallas and Irving – including Dallas City Hall – and even a trip to South Padre Island.
